Launch of the Nigeria Health Innovation Marketplace (NHIM)
Innovations around healthcare in Nigeria have a tendency to either not reach their full potential or make sustainable impact. This is as a result of inadequate support for these innovations, such as: low capital, low visibility to investors, lack of convergence platforms, and very minimal market linkages. Many incubation and entrepreneurship platforms in the country target mostly IT, financial, and e-commerce ventures. On the other hand, none of the existing platforms focus on healthcare innovations or the effective application of technological advances in healthcare delivery. In order to leapfrog these constraints and spur health innovations through a suitable and sustainable convergence platform, the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PHN) led a coalition of partners to create the Nigeria Health Innovation Marketplace (NHIM).
NHIM was launched on the 7th of February, 2014 with a steering committee set up to oversee and facilitate strategic partnerships to ensure that the platform makes sustainable impact with regards to innovations in healthcare and ultimately impact the Nigeria health sector.
